Josephine Baker visits Volendam--outtakes
Fox News Story C8059
A native of St. Louis, MO, Josephine Baker took Europe by storm in 1925 and remained one of its most celebrated artists until the outbreak of war. These newsreel outtakes were shot by famed illustrator Mac-Djorski on her visit to Volendam, North Holland. Ms. Baker and children play with traditional Dutch toys. She models traditional Dutch dress, hat, and clogs. She tries to teach children how to do the "Charleston" (one mother snatches her daughter out of frame). Ms. Baker tries to dance the "Charleston" while wearing clogs. Ms. Baker laughs and talks with a Dutch man smoking a pipe.
