Scope and Content Note:
The Roman Vishniac Film Collection comprises Vishniac's pioneering work in naturalist mircocinematography and photomicroscopy. It includes approximately 156,000 feet of motion picture film; more than 800 photographic negatives, slides, and prints; and paper records associated with these works. Film holdings include home movies and naturalist film experiments as well outtakes and working materials from the Living Biology film series. The bulk of the collection dates to the 1960s and 1970s, when Dr. Vishniac was producing microbiology films in New York City.
